Ford is closing down the Mercury brand for good.
All the sales went tremendously down on 74% since 2000 (in the figures of
2010).
During the last years the whole Mercury line of
vehicles consisted of just four modifications: crossover Mariner, sedan Milan,
Grand Marquis Medicare mobile and SUV Mountaineer. The Milan was just a dub of
the Ford Fusion version, the Mariner crossover a riff on the Escape, the
Mountaineer was based on the SUV Explorer and the Grand Marquis mobile was
available for a special order only.
When the Grand Marquis and Mountaineer went away
and it came to no point there was no reason to keep the ‘Mercury’ brand at all.
It was announced that The Ford was to shut down
Mercury by 2014 according to the withdrawal plan. But it is possible now to
give a much sooner timeline – the year of 2012.
